HOW KEXBI WORKS

KEXBI widget guide: how to use Up Next on iOS

Put your daily nutrition timeline on your lock screen to track your next meal, workout, or hydration window at a single glance.

AT A GLANCE

The argument in five lines

  1. KEXBI ships one widget, called Up Next. It shows the next meal, workout or fuel window from today's plan. Each family shows a different amount of detail: from a single amount on the small tile to the meal's own photo, countdown and place in the day (for example, 9 of 21) on the medium.
  2. It supports two Home Screen sizes (small and medium) and two Lock Screen styles (rectangular and inline). Same content, different amount of detail.
  3. The widget walks through the day on its own. It picks up a fresh plan every time KEXBI writes one (any briefing refresh, any logged item), then advances between updates from a per-minute pre-computed timeline. If the data is more than 18 hours old, or no plan exists yet, the widget shows a stale or no-plan state until you open the app.
  4. An item stays as Now past its scheduled time for half the gap to the next item, capped at 15 minutes. Dense checkpoints hand over quickly, but a meal keeps its moment.
  5. You do not need to sign into anything on the widget. If KEXBI is on the phone and today's plan is generated, the widget will find it.

The point of the KEXBI widget is one glance. Not a dashboard, not an overview, not a stack of numbers you have to parse. One line: what happens next, when, and how much. The rest of the app is there when you need it. The widget is there so you rarely do.

Section 01 · The widgetWhat Up Next actually shows

Every widget family draws from the same source: the next item on today's fuel plan. Under the hood the item has a scheduled time, a name (meal, workout, hydration cue), and an amount where relevant. What each family renders from that (the countdown, the position in the day, the meal photo, the amount pill) depends on the size. Section 02 lays that out per family.

When the moment arrives, the item holds as Now instead of switching to countdown zero. It holds for half the gap to whatever comes next, capped at fifteen minutes. So the pre-workout window that leads straight into training hands over quickly. A meal with nothing scheduled for two hours after it keeps its moment for the full fifteen. That behaviour is deliberate. Nothing about the widget ever tells you that you are late.

Figure 01 · The four states you might see

What each label means and what to do next

State What it means What to do
Up Next Normal running mode. The next item is queued. Nothing. This is the state you want.
Now You are inside the dwell window (up to 15 minutes past the item's scheduled time), so the widget is still pointing at it. Log the item when you get to it, or wait: the widget will move on to the next one on its own.
All fuelled Today's plan is finished. The last item's window has passed. On screen: "All fuelled. Nothing left today." Nothing to nudge you about. The widget will pick up tomorrow's plan when your briefing runs.
No plan yet Today's fuel plan has not been generated, or has zero items. On screen: "No plan yet today. Open KEXBI to build it." Open KEXBI and run today's briefing. The widget will populate on its own once the app writes the payload.
Refresh needed The data behind the widget is more than 18 hours old, or was written on a different local day. On screen: "Open KEXBI to refresh your plan." Open KEXBI. The briefing refresh writes a new payload and the widget catches up on the next timeline entry.
Fig 1. Widget behaviour is time-driven. Even if you never open the app during the day, the widget walks the plan on its own between refreshes. An early completion in the app rewrites the payload and advances the widget immediately.

Section 02 · Where you can put itFour homes, same content

Pick by where you look, not by feature

Home Screen small 2 x 2
A single-tile corner widget. Time, item name, and one amount in the pill (for example, 350ml or 938 kcal). The lightest touch, best when you already know your plan and want a subtle nudge.
Home Screen medium 4 x 2
The rich tile. Carries the meal's own photo alongside the time, name, amount pill, live countdown, and your place in the day (for example, 9 / 21). The default for most users, and the most visually distinctive of the four.
Lock Screen rectangular under the clock
Reads in the Weather-app grammar: a glyph plus "In 22m" as the hero line, name beneath. Sits under your Lock Screen clock. The glance-most-often option, no unlock required.
Lock Screen inline next to the date
A single line of text next to the date at the top of the Lock Screen. Time and item name only. Pair with the rectangular for a two-line glance.

Section 03 · Add to Home ScreenSix taps

How to add · Home Screen

Small or medium tile

Long-press an empty area of your Home Screen until the app icons start to wiggle. If you long-press an app instead, tap Edit Home Screen from the menu that appears.
Tap Edit in the top-left corner, then Add Widget. The widget gallery opens.
Search "KEXBI" in the search field, or scroll down the list until you find it.The KEXBI entry sits alphabetically. Under it you will see the Up Next widget preview.

Tap Add Widget when you have the size you want.
Drag it to where you want it, then tap Done in the top-right corner. To change size later, long-press the widget for size options in the menu, or remove and re-add.
The exact tap targets can shift slightly between iOS point releases; the sequence does not.

What you are building toward

An iPhone Home Screen with both KEXBI Up Next widget sizes installed. The medium widget at the top shows the next item, Pre-Workout Water at 16:35, with a countdown and a meal photo. The small widget below shows the same item stripped to time, name and a single amount pill.
Fig 3. Medium (top): the meal photo, countdown, amount pill, and 15 / 21 position all in the same tile. Small (bottom): the same next item stripped to time, name, and one amount pill. Both widgets pull from the same payload, so the two stay in step.

Section 04 · Add to Lock ScreenFive taps

How to add · Lock Screen

Rectangular under the clock, or inline next to the date

Wake your phone but do not unlock it. Long-press anywhere on the Lock Screen. You may need Face ID or your passcode to enter customise mode.
Tap Customise, then choose Lock Screen.
Tap the widget area under the clock (for the Rectangular widget), or tap the date at the top of the screen (for the Inline widget).
Scroll the widget list to KEXBI and tap it, or type it in the search field. If both widget styles are supported for the slot you tapped, they will both appear here.
Tap Done in the top-right to save. The Lock Screen widget refreshes on the same schedule as the Home Screen one, so the two stay in step.
The Rectangular widget sits under the clock; the Inline widget replaces the standard date line at the top of the Lock Screen. Both pull from the same payload as the Home Screen widget, so all three stay in sync.

Where it sits, once you have added it

Fig 4. The Rectangular family reads in the Weather-app grammar: a glyph and an "In Xm" hero line, with the item name below. Same underlying payload as the Home Screen widget, so the two stay in step.

Section 05 · TroubleshootingIf it does not look right

Widget says "No plan yet today. Open KEXBI to build it." Today's fuel plan has not been generated. Open KEXBI and run your morning briefing. The widget populates within a minute of the app writing the plan.
Widget says "Open KEXBI to refresh your plan." The data behind the widget is more than 18 hours old, or was written on a different local day. This is the "after midnight" guard: yesterday's schedule is never mapped onto today's clock. Open KEXBI; the briefing refresh clears it.
Widget is stuck on the wrong item Log the item you just completed in the app. That rewrites the payload and the widget advances immediately. If the widget still lags, it catches up on the next timeline entry, which is pre-computed per minute.
Widget does not appear in the gallery at all Confirm KEXBI is installed and you have opened it at least once since installing. iOS registers a new widget bundle after the app has been launched. Restart your phone if the gallery still does not show it.
